Hello.
And welcome!
Just Me.
Hello, I am Talita Oseguera, CNM, WHNP-BC, IBCLC (she/her), a community midwife, lactation consultant, and advocate for reproductive justice. I have been a full-spectrum doula since 2013 and have supported pregnant and postpartum people ever since. Originally from Los Angeles, California (born there, partially raised, and then returned for undergrad at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)), I completed nurse midwifery training at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), with a minor in Global Health. As a graduate student, I worked as a field nurse with SOLARS, one of the first, large-scale studies, designed by women of color partnering with pregnant through postpartum Black and Brown women and individuals to understand the impact of stress, anxiety, and racism on preterm birth in addition to resilience and coping as protective factors. I am a former co-coordinator of the Family Planning and Reproductive Choices elective within the OBGYN Department at UCSF and member of Nurse Students of Color. Additionally, I was the first Black midwifery student to participate in EMBRACE, a clinical program at UCSF developed to give Black mothers and Black pregnant people an opportunity to receive prenatal care from an intentional angle of racial consciousness that asserts a deliberate and unapologetic stance around holding, celebrating and embracing Black mothers, pregnant people and their families.
I co-authored, Battling Over Birth: Black Women and the Maternal Health Care Crisis, the second publication of Oakland, California-based Black Women Birthing Justice, of which I am a collective member. My master’s thesis was entitled: Black women’s experiences of stereotype-related gendered racism in health care delivery during pregnancy, birth and postpartum". My interests include reproductive justice, honoring and amplifying the voices, experiences, and issues of Black women and individuals across the sexual, reproductive and perinatal continuum, walking alongside birth workers of color who reflect the communities they serve, improving care for and with Black women and individuals, and keeping birth sacred. I am on the BabyCenter Advisory Board, the board of directors of the American Association of Birth Centers, received Best Research Article Award in the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health 2021 for co-authoring “Listening to Women: Recommendations from Women of Color to Improve Experiences in Pregnancy and Birth Care.”, and have been featured by the Huffington Post.

I have recently been trained as a Evidence Based Birth (EBB) Instructor and will be offering evidence-based childbirth courses will be offered in-person in Memphis and online at your preferred location anywhere in the world.

In my day-to-day life, I am a midwife at the all-Black midwifery practice at CHOICES Center for Reproductive Health in Memphis, Tennessee. At home, I have an active teenager (who comes as a package deal with Wednesday, a Black Cocker Spaniel) and a husband. I love plants, running, reading (when I have time), DIY projects, the beach (though I don't get to see much of it these days), scented candles, and massages!
